Vietnam is a haven for trekking and hiking tours. Beautiful countryside, local villages, mountains, rivers and so much more. Vietnam has some of the perfect landscapes to go for a walk. Especially northern Vietnam is popular for hiking and trekking tours.

In the north you find the most mountains and etnhic minority villages, hill tribes. Walking from village to village will not only give you epic views over the mountains, hills and rice fields, but also let you learn more about the daily life of the local minorities. If you opt for a multiple day trekking tour you will often stay overnight in a homestay. These homestays are very basic and owned by local minorities. It gives you a chance to learn more about the culture of these local hill tribes.

The most famous place to do a trekking in Vietnam is Sapa in northern Vietnam. Trekking tours ranges from half a day to 3 day tours, including overnight stay in a homestay. You have views during the hike of mountains, terraced rice fields and small villages.

Ha Giang is a lesser known hiking destination in Vietnam. This province is not much visited by tourists due to the poor infrastructure. The results is a lot more authentic experience. In this province you find the most impressive mountain area of Vietnam, bordering with China. In the biggest part of the province you don’t find many rice fields, but more mountains and minority villages. Only in the area Hoang Su Phi in Ha Giang you can do trekking through stunning rice fields.

Mu Cang Chau near Sapa has to most beautiful terraced rice fields of Vietnam. Here you can do great trekking, without seeing almost any tourist. It is a bit harder to get to, but with a trekking tour from Hanoi, including transportation it is totally worth it.
