Mario Kart Dalat – the viral downhill luge ride at Cao Nguyen Hoa
Mario Kart Dalat is the name most travelers use for the downhill luge ride inside Cao Nguyen Hoa, a large tourist park on the Ta Nung side of Da Lat, outside the city center. It is not a traditional racing kart track with engines, but a gravity-powered ride where you control your speed while going downhill through a scenic course.

The attraction became popular mainly because of social media. Videos of people racing down the track with mountain views, sharp turns, and helmet-mounted phone footage spread quickly on Facebook, TikTok, and Instagram, turning it into one of the more talked-about fun activities around Da Lat. While most foreign travelers search for Mario Kart Dalat, you may also see it called Luge Kart, which is closer to what the ride actually is.
Visiting information for Mario Kart Dalat at Cao Nguyen Hoa
Before going into the experience, it’s important to understand how visiting actually works. Mario Kart Dalat is not a standalone attraction, but part of the larger Cao Nguyen Hoa park, so your ticket and visit include more than just the ride. This section covers the practical details most travelers look for first.
Opening hours
Cao Nguyen Hoa is generally open from around 07:00 to late afternoon (around 16:30 – 18:00), depending on the season and day.
Best time to visit:
- Early morning (07:30 – 09:00) is the best time to go
- Fewer people, shorter waiting times, and cooler weather
- Better overall experience, especially on the track
When it gets busy:
- From around 10:00 onward, more visitors start arriving
- Weekends and holidays can get quite crowded
- Later in the day, you may need to wait before your turn on the track
If you want a smoother experience and less pressure from people behind you on the track, going early really makes a difference.
Ticket prices
The pricing is clear once you’re there, and there is really one main option most travelers go for.
Luge ticket (main experience):
- 300,000 VND per person
- Includes 2 rides (2 tracks)
- Includes park entrance
- Includes shuttle bus and swing
This is the standard ticket. One ride is quite short, so doing both tracks makes the experience much better.

Note: There is also a lower price listed for Vietnamese visitors (250,000 VND), but as a foreign traveler you should expect to pay 300,000 VND for the full Mario Kart Dalat experience.

Park entry only (no kart ride):
- 150,000 VND per person
This is mainly for people who join but don’t want to do the ride.
Children:
- Around 70,000 VND (based on height)
What is included
If you buy the standard combo ticket, it usually includes more than just the kart ride.
Typically included:
- 2 downhill rides (usually 2 different tracks)
- Shuttle bus back up after each ride
- Giant swing experience
- Access to the park (gardens, viewpoints, walking paths)
- Helmet, often with a phone mount for recording your ride
This makes it more of a small activity park experience rather than just a single ride.
What to bring
You don’t need much, but a few things can make your visit easier.
- Your phone – most helmets have mounts, so you can record the ride
- Comfortable clothes and closed shoes – you’ll be walking a bit and controlling the kart
- Light rain layer – weather in Da Lat can change quickly
- Sunglasses – only if they fit securely (you don’t want to lose them on the track)
A GoPro is optional, but not necessary for most people since the helmet mounts work well.
Extra costs to expect
The main ticket covers the ride and basic access, but there are a few additional costs to keep in mind:
- Food and drinks at the cafés (prices slightly higher than average)
- Transport to and from the park (taxi, Grab, or motorbike rental)
- Any optional extras not included in your ticket
What the Mario Kart Dalat ride is actually like
This is the part you’re here for. The ride is simple, but surprisingly fun, especially if you don’t expect a full theme park experience. It’s more about the downhill feeling, the views, and just having a good time.
Before the ride
You arrive at the main area of Cao Nguyen Hoa, where you buy your ticket and get directed to the starting point. It’s all quite straightforward. Staff give you a quick explanation, and you’ll get a helmet before starting.

The setup feels organized enough. It’s not super strict or high-tech, but clear enough for first-timers. You don’t need any experience — if you can use a brake and steer, you’ll be fine.
There can be a short wait depending on how busy it is, but it usually moves at a steady pace.
The first track
The first ride feels like a warm-up. It’s a bit simpler, with fewer sharp turns, and gives you time to get used to the kart and how the brakes work.

You control your own speed the whole way down. If you go slow, it’s relaxed and easy. If you release the brake more, it gets surprisingly fast.
It’s already fun, but once you finish, you’ll likely feel like you’re just getting started.
The shuttle back up
At the bottom, you don’t need to walk back up. There’s a shuttle bus that takes you back to the top for your second ride.

It’s quick and easy, and part of the normal flow. If you want, you can walk instead to explore some of the gardens and viewpoints along the way, but most people just take the shuttle.
The second track
The second ride is where it gets better.
This track has more turns and feels faster, especially now that you already understand how the kart works. You’ll feel more confident, so you naturally go a bit quicker.

This is usually the more fun one, and the one people remember. It’s also the better moment to record your ride if you want a video.
How long it lasts
Each ride only takes a few minutes. That’s probably the only downside.
Even with two tracks, the actual riding time is quite short. Still, most people feel it’s worth it because it’s genuinely fun and different.
It’s not something you plan your whole day around. It works best as part of a half-day trip, combined with other stops in the area or some time exploring the park itself.
Is Mario Kart Dalat safe?
In general, Mario Kart Dalat is safe for most travelers if you ride within your limits. The karts are simple to control with hand brakes, and you can go as slow as you want. You’re given a helmet and a short instruction before starting, so even beginners can do it without problems.

However, it’s still a downhill track, not a controlled theme park ride. If you go too fast or don’t brake in time, you can lose control, especially in corners or on wet surfaces. Some sections have obstacles like trees along the track, so you do need to stay focused. The best approach is to take it easy, brake before turns, and not treat it like a race.
Other things to do at Cao Nguyen Hoa besides the kart ride
The kart ride is the main reason to come, but there are a few other things inside the park that can make your visit feel more complete. Don’t expect major attractions — think of them more as extras to fill some time before or after your ride.
1. The giant swing

The swing is included in most combo tickets. It’s a quick, fun experience with a nice view, but not something you would visit the park for on its own.
2. Gardens and photo areas

The park has landscaped gardens, flowers, and several viewpoints. If you like walking around and taking photos, you can easily spend some time here. It’s well maintained, but it’s more of a casual stroll than a must-see attraction.
3. Café areas

There are a couple of cafés inside the park. One is near the main entrance, and another is located further down near the end of the track, close to a small stream or waterfall area. Both are good spots to take a break, though prices are a bit higher than average.
4. Relaxing after the ride

After your rides, it’s worth slowing down a bit instead of leaving immediately. Grab a drink, sit down, and enjoy the view. You can also walk around some of the paths if you still have time.
How to get to Mario Kart Dalat
Location
Mario Kart Dalat is located inside Cao Nguyen Hoa, on the Ta Nung route, just outside the city center of Da Lat.
In practical terms, it’s about a 20–30 minute drive from the center, depending on traffic. The route itself is quite scenic, especially once you leave the busy town area and head into the hills.
Taxi or Grab / private car
This is the easiest option for most travelers.
- Simple and comfortable
- Good if you’re traveling as a couple or small group
- No need to worry about directions or parking
It’s a good idea to arrange your return trip in advance. Either ask the driver to wait or book a return pickup, because getting a Grab back can sometimes take longer in this area.
You can also combine this with other stops along the Ta Nung route, turning it into a half-day trip instead of just going there and back.
Scooter / motorbike
Renting a scooter gives you more freedom and makes the trip more fun, especially with the scenery along the way.
That said, this route is not ideal for beginners. The road has curves, slopes, and some traffic, so you should be confident riding a motorbike.
Also important to know:
- You officially need a valid license and IDP
- Many travelers ride without it, but that doesn’t mean you’re insured if something happens
If you’re experienced, it’s a great way to get there. If not, better choose a car.
Tour
Joining a tour is a common option, especially among backpackers.
- Easy and social
- No need to arrange transport yourself
- Often combined with other attractions in the area
There are also private tours available if you prefer something more flexible, but for most people, a simple shared tour or going independently works just fine.
Tip: combine Mario Kart Dalat with the rainbow slide at Mongo Land
If you want to add another fun stop, you can combine Mario Kart Dalat with the rainbow slide at Mongo Land.

Both are located on the Ta Nung route, in the same direction from Da Lat. In fact, you pass Cao Nguyen Hoa (Mario Kart) on the way to Mongo Land, so it’s very easy to visit both in one trip without going out of your way.
The experiences are quite similar in style. Mario Kart is a downhill luge ride with more control and a bit more speed, while the rainbow slide at Mongo Land is simpler but still fun. They both fall into the category of light, playful activities rather than major attractions.
If you’re already heading this way, combining them makes sense and turns it into a more complete half-day outing.
Is Mario Kart Dalat worth it?
Mario Kart Dalat is honestly one of the more fun things to do in Da Lat right now. The ride itself is not very long, but it’s the kind of activity where you get off and immediately want to go again, especially on the second track which is more exciting.
What makes it worth it is not just the ride, but the whole experience around it. The views are nice, it’s easy to combine with a relaxed walk or a drink at one of the cafés, and it just feels like a fun break from the usual sightseeing. It’s also one of those activities that works well with friends or as a couple, and recording the ride makes it even more memorable.
At the same time, it’s good to keep expectations realistic. You’re not going to spend hours on the track, and it’s not a major attraction on its own. But as part of a half-day trip in this area, it’s definitely worth the stop.
