Tips for Culture & History tours in Vietnam

Vietnam has a rich culture and history and the best way to learn more about this is by a culture and history tour. Travel with a knowledgeable local guide to learn more about the Vietnam war, the rich food culture, the history of colonial building and ancient citadels. Vietnam has some of the most diverse and interesting cultures in Asia.

Not only nature or friendly locals is a reason to travel to Vietnam. One of the main reasons that many travelers leave for Asia is the many cultural attractions. With a rich history, it is not surprising that Vietnam also has an enormous amount of cultural attractions.

Not only Buddhist temples such as in Hoi An, the Cu Chi tunnels in Ho Chi Minh or the Forbidden City in Hue are an example of this, but also the shocking stories behind the war are very impressive and visible at the DMZ. Quickly look further for all cultural highlights of Vietnam.

Hoi An: The most atmospheric city in Vietnam. That is how you can best describe Hoi An. Hoi An was an important port city in Vietnam and that is reflected in the beautiful buildings. Since it is on the UNESCO World Heritage List, cars and trucks have been banned in the city center. It is therefore wonderfully quiet!

Hue: Located after Hoi An, Hue is a good follow up for Hoi An. The city is the ancient Imperial capital of Vietnam of the Nguyen emperors and rich in palaces, temples, tombs and pagodas including the Thieng Mu Pagoda. It is certainly not as picturesque and small as Hoi An but with all these sights definitely a must during your trip through Vietnam.

Dalat: When you are in Dalat it looks more like walking around in France than in Vietnam. It is totally different from the rest of the country. Dalat is Vietnam’s first hill station and is sandwiched between the mountains of the Lang Bian Plateau at an altitude of around 1,500 meters. It is a graceful town.

My Son Sanctuary: My Son Sanctuary is located 69 kilometers southwest of the city of Danang. Although it has been added to the UNESCO World Heritage List since 1999, My Son Sanctuary is certainly not one of the biggest attractions in the country. Some compare these ruins with the immense structures of Angkor Wat from Cambodia. In terms of building style, there are certainly comparisons, but unfortunately the My Son Sanctuary is mostly ruin. However, this does not mean that it is not worth it! My Son Sanctuary is still a beautiful building.

Cu Chi Tunnels: The Cu Chi tunnel complex is one of the most famous attractions in Vietnam. Not only is it a special location, it is also a location with an extraordinary story. The Cu Chi tunnels is the well-known network of underground tunnels in the Cu Chi region. These tunnels are only part of a gigantic tunnel system that runs through the entire country.

Demilitarized Zone (DMZ): Vietnam has had several wars. The most famous war is the one with the Americans. This war, which lasted from 1955 to 1975, left a lot of scars in Vietnam. Just as in all other wars, terrible things have happened in Vietnam. This is still clearly visible in the Demilitarized Zone. The fact that 37% of the population is younger than 15 years confirms a horrible history.[/read]
