The fast expressway
The quick way follows the new CT01 expressway for most of the distance, a smooth, fast road that covers the trip in around three and a half to four hours. It runs slightly inland and is not especially scenic, but it is direct and reliable, and it is the route taken by almost all buses and by private cars booked as a straight transfer. The scenic coastal road via Phan Rang and Ca Na (recommended)
If you have the time, the far more rewarding way hugs the coast through Ninh Thuan, one of the most beautiful and least visited stretches of shore in the country. Instead of the expressway, it follows the old coastal road south past Vinh Hy Bay, rated among Vietnam’s finest bays, and through Nui Chua National Park, whose coast road ranks as one of the best scenic drives anywhere in the country. Further south the road reaches Phan Rang, a Cham heritage town surrounded by vineyards and the Nam Cuong sand dunes, before continuing past the fishing port of Ca Na and on to Mui Ne. This route takes longer, five to six hours or more with stops, but the scenery makes it a trip in itself rather than a transfer. It is best done by private car or motorbike, where you set the pace and can stop where you like.
Option 1: By bus from Nha Trang to Mui Ne
Why choose the bus
The bus is the cheapest and most popular way to make this trip, with frequent departures day and night. Comfortable sleeper and cabin buses run the route in around four to four and a half hours, and it is an easy, no-planning option. The one downside is the route: buses take the fast expressway, so you see little of the coast.

Buses cover the distance in roughly four to four and a half hours on the expressway, dropping you in the main Mui Ne resort area. Modern sleeper and cabin buses are the norm, with reclining pods, air conditioning, and room to stretch out. Option 2: By private car from Nha Trang to Mui Ne
Why choose a private car
A private car is the most comfortable way to make the trip, and the best way to take the scenic coastal road. It collects you at your hotel in Nha Trang and drops you at your accommodation in Mui Ne, on your own schedule. Just as important, you choose the route: the fast expressway if you only want to arrive, or the coastal road through Ninh Thuan if you want to make a day of it, stopping at the bays, dunes, and vineyards along the way.

A direct transfer on the expressway takes around three and a half to four hours; the coastal road with stops fills most of a day. You hire the car with a driver, and prices generally run from around 1,700,000 to 2,500,000 VND (roughly $70 to $100) per car, more if you add a full day of coastal sightseeing. Option 3: By train from Nha Trang to Mui Ne
Why choose the train, and its catch
The train is a comfortable, scenic ride down the coast, but it comes with a real catch on this route: there is no station in Mui Ne. Trains run only as far as Binh Thuan station, near Phan Thiet, from where you finish the trip by road. That makes it less convenient than it first sounds, and a slight backtrack, since the station sits inland of Mui Ne.

Trains from Nha Trang reach Binh Thuan station, also called Muong Man, in around four to four and a half hours, following the coast for much of the way. From there it is a further 30 to 40 kilometers by taxi or local bus to Mui Ne, adding time and a transfer at the end. Tickets are booked through 12Go, Baolau, or Vexere. The train suits travelers who particularly enjoy rail journeys and do not mind the transfer at the end. For most people heading to Mui Ne, though, the extra step makes it less practical than the bus.
Option 4: By motorbike from Nha Trang to Mui Ne
Riding the coastal road yourself is one of the most rewarding ways to make this trip, and this stretch of coast is a favorite with motorbike travelers for good reason. The catch is practical: there is no one-way motorbike rental between Nha Trang and Mui Ne, so this really only works if you already have your own bike, usually as part of a longer north-to-south road trip down the coast.
