What to buy and see
Street Performance
What is so great about the Dalat Night Market is that it’s not just about buying and selling goods. It is mainly the whole atmosphere that makes this market a real experience. Part of this are the different street performances. There are groups that dance to hip hop, others do a skater show and then there are different groups that do something else again; every night there can be a different group preforming. There are also shops that promote their wares with living dolls from mainly Japanese cartoons, such as Hello Kitty and Pikachu and some young Vietnamese artists are painting portraits.
Food
Food is for many the biggest reason to come to the Dalat Night Market. During the day time, fresh vegetables and fruit from the local area are sold in the Central Market. During night time, there are a few stall who sell this, but it is mainly the street food stalls that take over. Some of the typical and most popular Dalat dishes are the Dalat pizza, banh mi, rice noodles and fresh soy milk. It is a great place to get a nice snack, just sit down at one of the low plastic stools at a place you like the most. If you don’t what to try, you can also go by Dalat night tour. A local guide will bring you to the market and let you taste some of the best local food.
Although you can bargain over souvenirs and clothes, it it not common to bargain about prepared food, as everything has a fixed price.
Clothes
Like all the markets in Vietnam, there is a big section with clothes. You find shirts, pants, shorts, shoes, socks and a lot more. Because Dalat is located in the highlands, it also has a cooler climate compared with Ho Chi Minh City for example. So in contrary to many other markets, you can also find a lot of warmer clothes here, like jackets, gloves, woolen caps and scarves. There is also a section with second hand clothes, were you can buy clothes for as cheap as 2 to 3 dollar.
Souvenirs
There are also lots of souvenirs you can buy at the market. Don’t expect a lot of high quality handicrafts though. Typical local products are jams, tea and coffee.
