Itinerary

08:00 – Start :
Hotel pickup and transfer

You’re picked up from your hotel in Phong Nha and driven to the Jungle Boss headquarters, the base for today’s adventure. This is where you’ll meet the team and get ready for two days in the jungle.

08:30 – Briefing :
Safety and trip overview

After arrival, your guide explains the route, safety rules, and regulations inside Phong Nha–Ke Bang National Park. You’ll also have time to check your gear and ask any last questions before heading out.

08:45–09:00 – Transfer :
Drive to Elephant Cave area

Travel by van toward the Elephant Cave area, leaving town behind and entering the more remote jungle landscape.

10:00 – Trek start :
Jungle hike to Elephant Cave

Arrive at the trekking starting point and begin hiking through dense forest. The trail leads you deeper into the national park, with changing terrain and lush surroundings.

10:30–12:00 – Stop :
Explore Elephant Cave

Reach Elephant Cave and spend time exploring its interior with your guide. You’ll see impressive cave formations and learn how these caves were formed inside the limestone mountains.

13:00 – Stop :
Arrival at Ma Da Lake

Continue trekking until you reach Ma Da Lake, a peaceful body of water hidden in the jungle.

13:30 – Break :
BBQ lunch and swimming

Enjoy a freshly prepared BBQ lunch by the lake. After eating, you can swim in the clear water of Ma Da Lake or relax and take in the quiet jungle atmosphere.

Prepare overnight camp

In the late afternoon, the team sets up camp near the lake. You’ll have time to rest, change clothes, and enjoy the surroundings as the forest settles for the evening.

18:15 – Dinner :
Jungle-style evening meal

Dinner is served at camp, featuring traditional Vietnamese dishes prepared by the Jungle Chef. Spend the evening relaxing at camp before settling into your tent for the night.

Wake up in the jungle and enjoy a simple local breakfast at camp before packing up and getting ready for the trek out.

Begin trekking through the forest, following jungle trails toward Tra Ang Cave.

10:00 – Stop :
Reach Tra Ang Cave

Arrive at the entrance of Tra Ang Cave, known for its underground river and swimming sections.

If conditions allow, swim inside Tra Ang Cave to explore around 600 meters of the cave’s interior. This section is optional and guided, with safety equipment provided.

12:00 – Break :
Lunch time

Enjoy lunch after the cave exploration, giving you time to recharge before the final trek.

Hike back to Ho Chi Minh Road

Continue trekking through the jungle toward Ho Chi Minh Road, marking the end of the forest section.

Arrive at the road and enjoy a cold drink while waiting for the transfer back.

16:00 – End :
Return to Phong Nha

Drive back to Phong Nha and drop-off at your hotel. The tour ends in the late afternoon.

  • Moderate. This tour includes jungle trekking, cave exploration, swimming, and an overnight camp. You should be comfortable walking on uneven terrain and being active for several hours. If you have concerns about the difficulty, let us know — we can advise or adjust during the tour where possible.
  • This Phong Nha jungle adventure tour runs year-round. Spring and summer offer warm weather and great swimming conditions, while autumn brings cooler temperatures and a quieter forest atmosphere.
  • No prior trekking or caving experience is required. The tour is suitable for active beginners, with full guidance and safety instructions provided.
  • Wear lightweight, quick-dry clothing, long pants and long sleeves for jungle trekking, and sturdy trekking shoes with good grip. Bring swimwear for cave and lake swimming, plus sandals or flip-flops for camp.
  • There is no mobile signal or internet during most of the jungle and camping sections. Wifi is available in Phong Nha town before and after the tour. A Vietnamese SIM card is useful, but expect to be offline during the adventure.
  • Vegetarian, vegan, and allergy-friendly meals can be arranged. Please inform us in advance so the team can prepare accordingly.
  • All essential equipment is included: caving helmet, headlamp, life jacket, gloves, camping tents, sleeping mats, pillows, lighting for the dining area, towels, and purified drinking water. Trekking shoes are available if needed.

FAQ

Is this tour suitable for children or older travelers?

This tour is best suited for teens and adults. Due to jungle trekking, cave swimming, and camping, it’s not recommended for young children or travelers with limited mobility.

Will I have to swim inside the caves?

Swimming is part of the Tra Ang Cave experience, but it’s optional. If you prefer not to swim, you can relax outside the cave while the group explores. Life jackets are provided for safety.

Are there leeches or dangerous animals in the jungle?

: Leeches can appear, especially during the rainy season. Wearing long pants and thick socks helps reduce the chance of bites. Dangerous wildlife is extremely rare, and your local guide is trained to manage jungle conditions safely.

What are the toilets and washing facilities like during the tour?

Toilet facilities are very basic or unavailable during trekking and at the campsite. Washing is usually done in the lake or with limited water at camp. This tour is designed for travelers comfortable with simple outdoor conditions.

Is drinking water provided, or should I bring my own?

Purified drinking water is provided throughout the tour, carried by both guests and the porter team. Bringing a reusable water bottle is recommended.
