Getting to Ha Giang

Option 1: Homestay package + 1 day [Most recommended]

Depart from Hanoi in the early morning the day before you want to start the Ha Giang loop (Day 0). Transfer from your hotel in Hanoi to Ha Giang by luxury limousine minibus.

Arrive in the afternoon in Ha Giang. Stay in a local authentic minority village just outside town. You have the afternoon to explore the beautiful village, including rice fields around. The village belongs to the Thai minority, who live in houses on stilts. You will spend the night in a homestay in this village where you will be picked up the next day to start the Ha Giang loop tour.

Option 2: VIP Limousine Sleeper Bus

You’ll be picked up from your hotel in Hanoi’s Old Quarter (8:00–8:30 PM) and travel overnight in a VIP sleeper limousine bus, which offers extra-wide seats and added comfort compared to standard sleeper buses. You’ll arrive around 3:00 AM and check into a private room at a hotel in Ha Giang City for a rest before your tour.

Option 3: Custom Travel Arrangements

If you’re coming from other destinations like Sapa, there are also direct buses to Ha Giang available. In addition, we can arrange a private car or van from any location in Vietnam to Ha Giang. For these flexible travel options, just contact us in advance—we’re happy to help organize the most convenient route for you.

Itinerary

Option 1: Homestay experience + 1 day [Most recommended]
You leave Hanoi early in the morning by luxury limousine van. Pick-up is at your hostel or hotel, and you arrive in Ha Giang around mid-afternoon.

Instead of starting the loop right away, you spend the night in a quiet local village just outside town, surrounded by rice fields. It’s the perfect soft landing in the north: walk through the village, meet locals, and get your first taste of mountain life.

The next morning, your Easy Rider team picks you up and your Ha Giang Loop group motorbike tour officially begins.

Option 2: VIP Limousine Sleeper Bus [Most popular]
You travel overnight from Hanoi to Ha Giang in a VIP sleeper bus. Wider beds, more privacy, and far more comfort than a standard night bus — ideal if you want to start the Ha Giang Loop fresh.

Most backpackers choose this option because it saves both time and money on an extra overnight stay. We can arrange this bus directly for you.

Option 3: Private transfer
Don’t want to take the bus? We can arrange a private car with driver from Hanoi or other cities in Vietnam. This is the easiest and most flexible option, but also more expensive than traveling by bus.

From Sapa
Planning to visit Sapa as well?
Our Sapa + Ha Giang Loop combo tour is the easiest choice — you travel directly from Sapa to Ha Giang without hassle, combining two of North Vietnam’s top adventures in one smooth trip.

Already booked your Sapa trip yourself?
No problem. We can also arrange just the bus from Sapa to Ha Giang, so you can easily join this Ha Giang Loop group tour.

Other destinations
Coming from Cat Ba, Ninh Binh, Ha Long, Hue, or somewhere else?
Let us know — we can usually arrange transport, or you can easily book connections yourself by bus.

You meet your Easy Rider team in Ha Giang, strap on your backpack, hop on the motorbike — and from the very first moment, it feels like a real Ha Giang Loop road trip. The route climbs through Bac Sum Pass, where it instantly feels like you’re leaving normal life behind.

At Heaven Gate, the landscape suddenly opens up, with wide views over Tam Son and the iconic Twin Mountains. This is the moment every group has the same reaction: okay… this is going to be epic.

An unexpected, chilled contrast follows with an exclusive boat ride through a quiet river gorge — a perfect warm-up before diving back into the mountains on this motorbike group tour.

After lunch in Yen Minh, you ride through the photogenic Chin Khoanh Pass, famous for its smooth S-curves. At Tham Ma Slope, you’ll often see women in colorful Hmong clothing — a lively cultural stop where the real vibe of the Ha Giang Loop hits you.

Next up is the impressive Hmong King’s Palace, a historic mountain residence that gives insight into the once-powerful Hmong culture.

By late afternoon, you arrive in Dong Van, check into your hotel, and end the day with a group dinner. In the evening, you can stroll through the atmospheric Old Quarter — small cafés, old houses, and a cinematic backpacker vibe to wrap up day one of the Ha Giang Loop group tour.

Is it Sunday? Then you start the day at the Dong Van Sunday Market. Colorful, busy, and fully authentic — exactly what you’d hope for from an ethnic mountain market.

After that comes the absolute highlight of this Ha Giang Loop group tour with an Easy Rider: the legendary Ma Pi Leng Pass.

You ride along vertical cliffs, deep gorges, and views that simply don’t fit into photos. At the Sky Path, you walk along the cliff edge for a panoramic view over the turquoise Nho Que River — pure Ha Giang Loop magic.

Through remote villages and rugged mountain landscapes, you continue toward Mau Due and Lung Ho. This part of the loop feels even more raw and untouched, like stepping into a different Vietnam.

At a waterfall, there’s time to swim, relax, and cool off — one of those unexpected Ha Giang moments that backpackers remember long after the trip ends.

By late afternoon, you arrive in Du Gia, a peaceful village surrounded by rice fields. You stay in a local homestay, share dinner with a Tay family, and end the day with a relaxed, social group vibe.

You wake up to roosters crowing, kids heading to school, and daily life in a Tay village. After breakfast, you ride toward Lung Tam, a traditional Hmong weaving village where women still make linen by hand and dye textiles using natural methods.

The group passes Quan Ba Heaven Gate once more for a final view of the Twin Mountains — a perfect moment to say goodbye to the mountains. From here, the road winds back via Bac Sum Pass toward Ha Giang City.

By late afternoon, your 3-day Ha Giang Loop motorbike group tour comes to an end. You can catch the bus straight back to Hanoi or stay a bit longer in Ha Giang before continuing your journey.

  • The Ha Giang Loop can be done all year. Each season has its own character, from misty mountain passes in winter and fresh green valleys in spring to sunny roads in summer and dramatic landscapes in autumn. Light rain is part of the experience and does not stop the tour. Rain ponchos are provided, and Easy Riders simply adjust the pace when needed.
  • You should bring only what you need for three days on the loop. Backpacks are usually no problem, while small suitcases may be possible depending on their size. Large suitcases are difficult to transport on a motorbike. Free luggage storage is available in Ha Giang. If you are traveling from places like Hanoi, Sapa, Ninh Binh, or Cat Ba and return to the same accommodation, luggage storage is often possible there as well.
  • The Ha Giang Loop is not about covering long distances but about enjoying the scenery and regular stops. On average, day one covers around 150 kilometers with about four and a half hours of riding. Day two is roughly 120 kilometers with around three and a half hours on the bike, and day three is again about 120 kilometers with around four hours of riding. In reality, you spend most of the day on the road due to frequent stops for photos, viewpoints, short walks, and local encounters.
  • Vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free diets, or food allergies are not a problem. Just let us know when you book the tour so restaurants and homestays can be informed in advance.
  • Safety is always the highest priority on this tour. The Easy Riders are experienced, ride calmly, and know every bend of the Ha Giang Loop. Most roads are now well paved, and unsafe sections are avoided in bad weather. In rare cases of extreme conditions, such as typhoons or severe storms, the tour is postponed or fully refunded.
  • The tour almost always runs, whether it is sunny, cloudy, misty, or lightly raining. These conditions are all part of the Ha Giang Loop experience. Rain ponchos are provided, and only in exceptional cases of extreme weather is the route adjusted or the ride temporarily paused.
  • For a motorbike tour, it is best to wear a light, windproof jacket or rain jacket, comfortable long pants, and closed shoes. During cooler months, especially from November to March, a warm extra layer is recommended. Keep in mind that temperatures on mountain passes can be noticeably lower than in the valleys.
  • You should bring your passport, swimwear for waterfall stops, sunscreen and sunglasses, mosquito repellent, and a power bank with a local SIM card for your phone. A camera is highly recommended, and it is useful to carry some cash for snacks, drinks, or small souvenirs along the way. A positive attitude also goes a long way on a multi-day motorbike adventure.

FAQ

How safe is riding the Ha Giang Loop on the back of a motorbike with an Easy Rider?

Safety comes first. You ride with experienced Easy Riders who have been driving these roads for years — often daily. They know every corner, village, and traffic situation in the mountains. This group tour runs with a small group, so guides can keep everything under control and ride at a relaxed pace.

For many travelers, this is both the safest and most fun way to do the Ha Giang Loop, without the stress of riding yourself.

Can I ride the motorbike myself during this group tour?

Only if you have solid riding experience and can show both a motorbike license and a valid International Driving Permit (IDP). Riding yourself is fully at your own risk and only allowed on parts of the route where it’s safe. Most travelers choose an Easy Rider so they can fully enjoy the views without stress or risk.

Is there an age limit or a typical group profile?

There’s no strict age limit, but this tour is mainly booked by young, adventurous travelers (18–35). Groups are small and social — perfect if you’re traveling solo or want to meet other backpackers. Riding on the back isn’t physically demanding, but you should feel comfortable on mountain roads.

How does riding with an Easy Rider in a group work?

Easy Riders ride at the front and back of the group to keep everyone together and safe. There are regular stops for photos, viewpoints, snacks, and short walks. You don’t need to plan anything — guides handle timing, safety, route, meals, and accommodation. You just hop on and enjoy the ride.

Do the Easy Riders speak English?

Each group has at least one well English-speaking Easy Rider who does the main explanations. The others speak basic English — enough for simple communication. All Easy Riders are locals (often Hmong or Tay), know the area inside out, and receive English lessons through our partners. They’re not academic guides, but real locals with knowledge and humor.

Can I bring large luggage on this Ha Giang Loop group tour?

For the loop, bring only what you need for 3 days.
Guideline: max. 10 kg in a backpack or small bag.
Large suitcases can be stored for free at our start point in Ha Giang or in Hanoi (at our partner hostel if you book pick-up there).

What kind of accommodation is included?

You’ll always stay in a private room at a local homestay or a solid hotel — no big dorms or party hostels.
Simple, clean, comfortable, and ideal for backpackers.
At the homestay, you’ll enjoy home-cooked meals with a local Tay family.

What makes this Ha Giang Loop group tour different from cheap budget tours?

Many cheap group tours run with large groups, unsafe drivers, poor motorbikes, party culture, and little focus on safety or culture. Our tour is different:

– Small group (no mass tourism)
– Experienced Easy Riders instead of untrained young drivers
– Authentic stops, no tourist traps
– Better accommodation and home-cooked meals
– Realistic pacing without rushing or risky riding

It’s the right balance of budget, safety, adventure, and culture.

Does this Ha Giang Loop group tour run year-round?

Yes. The Ha Giang Loop can be done all year.
Rain or mist can happen, especially in winter, but Easy Riders always adjust their riding style and route for safety. In rare cases of extreme weather, the tour is postponed or rescheduled.

How do I travel from Hanoi / Sapa / Ninh Binh / Cat Ba to Ha Giang?

We arrange everything — easy and affordable.

Options from Hanoi:
– Limousine bus (day): comfortable, but you arrive the same day and need an extra night in Ha Giang. We arrange a nice Tay village homestay just outside town.
– VIP sleeper cabin bus (night): highly recommended. Private cabin and early arrival in Ha Giang.
– Standard sleeper bus: cheapest option, less comfortable.

From Sapa, Ninh Binh, and Cat Ba, we also arrange day or night transfers.

What about food and dietary requirements?

All meals are included and consist of local Vietnamese dishes.
Vegetarian, vegan, or allergies? No problem — just let us know at booking.

Can I stay in the same group as my friends or travel companions?

Yes, of course. If you’re traveling with friends, as a couple, or in a small group, we make sure you stay together — same group, same stops, same homestays, and as close as possible while riding.
Each traveler still has their own Easy Rider, which is the only safe way to ride the Ha Giang Loop.

Many travelers also meet new friends on this small group backpacker tour — it’s one of the best parts of the experience.
