It has been a year since Local Vietnam began construction of its first lodge in the northern mountains of Vietnam. Located in Sung Trai village, along the Ha Giang Loop in the UNESCO Dong Van Karst Plateau, the project has taken longer than planned — but for all the right reasons. Building a lodge in such a remote and mountainous location brings unique challenges that also make the place so special.

Progress and Challenges in a Remote Location
The lodge is being built on a hillside overlooking the mountains and valleys of Sung Trai. Access to the site is limited, and most materials have to be transported from far away, adding time to every stage of construction. Weather has also played a role, with heavy rains and fog common in Ha Giang’s highlands, and local paperwork taking longer due to the rural setting. Despite these obstacles, the core structure is now complete, and finishing touches are underway.

Preparing for a Soft Opening
In December 2025, Local Vietnam will host a pre-launch stay for its partners, team members, and close collaborators to test the lodge’s facilities and services. This phase allows the team to fine-tune operations, train local staff, and ensure everything meets the standards of comfort and authenticity that define Local Vietnam’s travel philosophy.
The official opening for all travelers is planned for January 2026. Guests will be able to stay in a lodge that blends local Hmong-inspired architecture with modern comfort — a space designed by architect Tung Le and initiated by Nhung Phung, CEO of Local Vietnam.
Looking Ahead
This first lodge marks an important step in Local Vietnam’s mission to create meaningful travel experiences that support local communities. Once open, it will serve as both a comfortable base for exploring the Ha Giang Loop and a model for future community-focused lodges across Vietnam.
