Foundation work for Local Vietnam’s first lodge in Ha Giang, with local builders working on a remote mountain site overlooking karst formations.

Construction Begins on Our First Lodge in Ha Giang

In May 2024, Local Vietnam began building its first lodge in northern Vietnam, located in the small village of Sung Trai along the famous Ha Giang Loop. The village lies within the UNESCO-recognized Dong Van Karst Plateau, surrounded by limestone mountains and peaceful valleys. Although Sung Trai is on the main route, it remains a quiet and undeveloped area, home to ethnic Hmong families and far from the usual tourist path.

Building in the Heart of the Ha Giang Loop

Sung Trai is one of the few places along the loop where daily life continues almost untouched by tourism. Every Tuesday, the local market fills with ethnic communities trading goods, food, and colorful handmade clothing — an authentic scene that captures the spirit of northern Vietnam. It is in this setting that Local Vietnam chose to build its first lodge, a place designed to fit naturally into the landscape while offering a comfortable base for travelers exploring Ha Giang.

Blending Local Culture with Modern Comforts

The project was initiated by Nhung Phung, CEO of Local Vietnam, who partnered with architect Tung Le to create a design that balances tradition and comfort. The lodge uses local stone and natural materials, inspired by the mountains and the architectural style of Hmong homes. While most accommodations in Ha Giang are either very basic or backpacker-oriented, this project aims to offer a small-scale, cultural stay with the comfort level international travelers appreciate.

Local Vietnam plans to complete construction within one year. Once finished, the lodge will be managed by local staff, providing new opportunities for the community while allowing guests to experience Ha Giang’s mountain life in an authentic yet comfortable way. For travelers on the Ha Giang Loop, Sung Trai will soon be more than a scenic stop — it will be a place to slow down, connect with local people, and enjoy the beauty of Ha Giang’s highlands.
