This page explains what personal data Local Vietnam collects on localvietnam.com, why, who else sees it, how long we keep it, and what you can ask us. Our Dutch and German websites have their own privacy pages.
Who we are
Local Vietnam is the trading name of TheLocalVietnam, a travel company and licensed tour operator in Vietnam. For anything about your data, email [email protected].
What we collect
- When you send a form: your name, email address and the details you choose to give us, such as a phone or WhatsApp number, travel dates, number of travellers, budget, destinations and your wishes for the trip.
- When you ask for our ebook: your first name and email address.
- When you book a trip: the details needed to run it, such as traveller names and, only where a hotel, flight or permit requires it, passport details.
- When you message us on WhatsApp or Messenger: your messages and the number or profile you use.
- When you pay: we send you a PayPal payment request and you pay on PayPal’s own website. We never see or store your card details.
- When you visit the website: Google Analytics counts visits (pages viewed, device, rough location, how you found us), without your name. Our security systems record internet addresses to block attacks and spam.

- To send you the ebook and our newsletter, if you asked for them
- To see which pages help travellers, so we can improve the website
- To keep the website safe from spam and attacks
We never sell your data and we do not use it for advertising profiles.
Who else sees it
- Our team in Vietnam, to help you.
- Suppliers of your trip, such as hotels, guides, drivers and airlines. They get only what they need for your booking.
- Services we use to run our business:
- Freshdesk, the system where our team receives form requests
- Mailchimp, for the ebook and newsletter
- PayPal, for payments
- WhatsApp and Messenger, when you choose to contact us there
- Google Analytics, for visit statistics
- Cloudflare and Wordfence, for security and fast delivery
- Akismet and Google reCAPTCHA, to stop spam on forms
- DigitalOcean, our web server in Singapore
- YouTube, Google Maps and Bunny, when a page shows a video or a map
Some of these services store data outside Vietnam, for example in the United States, Europe or Singapore. By sending us a form, you agree that your data is handled by these services for the purposes on this page.
Cookies
The website uses a few cookies: Google Analytics cookies to count visits, Cloudflare cookies for security, and YouTube or Google Maps cookies when you play a video or view a map. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. The website keeps working without them.
How long we keep it
- Form requests that do not lead to a trip: deleted after 2 years.
- Booked trips: kept as long as tax and accounting rules require.
- Passport and other travel documents: deleted automatically 90 days after your trip, or earlier if you ask.
- Newsletter: until you unsubscribe. Every email has an unsubscribe link.
- Visit statistics: at most 14 months in Google Analytics.
What you can ask us
You can ask us to show the data we hold about you, correct it, delete it, or stop using it for a certain purpose, and you can withdraw your consent at any time. Email [email protected]. We confirm your request within 2 working days and handle it within the time limits of Vietnamese law. If you are not happy with our answer, you can complain to the data protection authority in your country.
Children
Our trips are booked by adults. We only hold data about children when a parent gives it to us as part of a family booking.
Changes
When we change this page, we update the date at the top.
