Tours from the Mekong Delta to Phu Quoc

Mekong Delta cruise to Phu Quoc
Another fun way to go to Phu Quoc is by Mekong Delta cruise. What is important to know first is that the cruise itself does not sail to Phu Quoc, because these river boats are not intended to make the crossing at sea. Most boat trips stop in Can Tho, where you will be transferred to Rach Gia, from where you take the ferry to Phu Quoc.
That said, this is still a fun and convenient option, because during the cruise you will be sailing through the beautiful delta landscape, making trips such as cycling and visiting villages, and your transfer from the Mekong Delta to Phu Quoc is fully arranged.
Domestic flights
There are three airports in the Mekong Delta:

Only between Can Tho and Phu Quoc there are direct flights by Vietnam Airlines and VietJet Air which flies both once a day. This flight between the mainland and the largest island of Vietnam takes 55 minutes.
The largest city closest to the Mekong Delta is Ho Chi Minh City. From this city’s Tan Son Nhat airport there are more regular flights, including from the budget airlines VietJet Air and JetStar. The flight takes an hour and prices start from 35 USD.
By boat / ferry to Phu Quoc
Phu Quoc is accessible by ferry from the ports of Rach Gia and Ha Tien with Superdong Speed Ferry and Phu Quoc Express.
From Ha Tien to Phu Quoc by ferry
Ha Tien is the closest to Phu Quoc and is on the border with Cambodia. There are several boats per day and the crossing takes only 1 hour and 15 minutes. You can choose between the Superdong Speed Ferry and the Phu Quoc Express. The first boat is at 7:35 am and the last boat is at 1:45 pm. Please note that Ha Tien is a few hours drive from Can Tho, Ben Tre, My Tho and other cities in the Mekong Delta.

How to get to Ha Tien
Ha Tien is a popular border town with Cambodia for travelers. For that reason, there are direct buses from Ho Chi Minh City to this city. The journey takes approximately between 6 and 7 hours. Due to the distance and travel time, it is mainly night buses that run, which is convenient if you want to take the ferry in the morning.
There are also buses from other cities in the Mekong Delta, such as Can Tho and Chau Doc. However, these are mainly buses that run during the day, which means that you cannot take the ferry to Phu Quoc the same day, which only depart in the morning and early afternoon. It may therefore be unavoidable to either arrange private transportation or choose to stay overnight in Ha Tien. From Rach Gia to Phu Quoc there are 6 ferries per day. The first one leaves is at 7:00 AM and the last one leaves at 1:45 PM. The crossing takes about 2.5 hours.

How to get to Rach Gia
The small town of Rach Gia is not very well known as a tourist resort, but because it is a popular crossing for the ferry to Phu Quoc it has plenty of bus connections.
There are several buses a day from Ho Chi Minh City and the journey takes 5.5 hours. Most buses do not arrive at favorable ferry times, so you may have to book a hotel for a few hours or spend an entire night here.
Can Tho is not that far from Rach Gia, the bus to the port takes about 3 hours. especially for Can Tho it can be very useful to rent a private car with driver instead of the bus.
From Ben Tre there are at least two buses a day to Rach Gia. The journey takes about 4.5 hours. If you have a little more time, it can be useful to travel from Ben Tre to Can Tho first.
